Learning to Learn
As part of our continuing focus on enabling students to fully understand not merely what they learn, but how they learn, we are developing our explicit teaching of metacognitive strategies and opportunities for student self reflection on their learning. Using 'The Learning Scientists' material that is included in every student planner and the VESPA model of learning (Steve Oaks and Martin Griffin) we have designed an incremental curriculum for learning strategies from Years 7 to 13.
The Learn to Learn (L2L) lessons are taught as part of Year 7 to 11 PSHE lessons, these strategies are then referred to throughout the wider curriculum and in 'orders' (data review) self reflection, tutor meetings and parents' evenings.
In Sixth Form the VESPA programme is delivered through 'Enrichment and Extension' lessons, assemblies and tutor time.
